  1. I was a resident of Ilford for 25 being born in the hospital mentioned King George V, as my family members were all born and resided in Ilford. I was unaware of the memorial all that time and having researched War Memorial for my sons homework as we now live in Chelmsford came across this site. It is a shame I only knew of it now as many of my greater uncles and grandfathers fought in the war. My only recollection is one in Barking Park. Well done to all those who are maintaining the up keep and it is great to see. Best Wishes. Mrs M Gray (Higgins)

  5. As a Barkingsider and having had a grandad and great uncle who served in WW1 I am interested in the impact WW1 had on local residents. I have been asked to write a book on Ilford/Romford and the impact it had on the communities and I wanted to include as much information about the local people who fought for our freedom and highlight the sacrifices they all made. I wonder whether anyone can assist me with any details and information. Thanks

  6. I am researching the men on a War Memorial in Flackwell Heath, Buckinghamshire and Leonard Savill should be one of them. ( His name is not on this memorial) He was an Ilford man. His parents were living at Flackwell Heath.at the time of his death in 1918. If there is any family member who can offer any further information I would be grateful.
